Reservation of the accommodation for the participating students will be organized by the Technological Educational Institute of Crete. Students belonging to the Brunel University, Imperial College, Insubria University and Vilnius University will recieve a grant to cover travel and living expenses. Students should retain their airline boarding passes and other travel receipts for getting the refund.
HOW TO GET TO CHANIA:
By Air There are regular flights connecting Athens to Chania run by Olympic airlines and Aegean airlines . Direct charter flights are also scheduled in Summer from U.K., Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Poland, Norway and Finland. Here follow some useful links to find out your flight:
MPORTANT!!! Only 3 buses per day run from the airport to Chania. The fastest option is to get a taxi (about 15-17 euros per ride). DON'T FORGET to ask for a receipt to the taxi driver in order to be refunded!
There are daily connections from Piraeus (Athens) to Chania-Souda, either with fast ship or overnight ferries. Information can be found at the following links:
The ships arrive at Souda port, that is about 10 Km away form the city center. Regular bus connection (every 30 minutes) is available. Take bus no. 13 from the square just at the exit of the harbor. Tickets are available at the kiosk and cost 1.10 Euro. Tickets can also be purchased in the bus for 1.30 Euro.
TRAVELLING AROUND CHANIA
Chania is not a big city, though traffic tend to be busy during Summer. Walking is a good option: T.E.I. is about 30 minutes walk from the center. Bicycle is also a convenient transportation means, especially during rush hours. There are a few agencies renting bicycles in the city, for about 8-10 euros a day.
Regular bus connection from the center to T.E.I. are scheduled every 15-20 minutes. Take bus no. 11 opposite to the Market, in front of the Greek National Bank. Tickets cost 75 cents and trip lasts about 25 minutes.
Using car for moving around Chania is not recommended because of the traffic and parking difficulties, however you can rent a small car from many travel agencies in the center starting from 30-40 Euros per day. For more information about Chania the following links may be useful.
